Nigeria is a country blessed with many beautiful mind blowing geologic attractions which will leave you enchanted. Her captivating beauty and glory has attracted so many to it for years leaving them with a nostalgic feeling of profound wild holiday satisfaction.

Replete with a variety of beautiful landscapes, here are some of the most astonishingly unique geologic wonders in Nigeria that can leave you breathless and mesmerized.

1.Ampidong Crater Lake – Plateau State

Ampidong is located in Ampidong West, Mangu Local Government Area about 98km from Jos city center. Amipidong is a cluster of water formed as a result of a volcanic eruption so many years ago. The crater is approximately about 12kilometers deep with a circumference of about 500meters. There are about 200 same Crater Lake in the entire world with Ampidong as the only one in the entire West African sub region making it a tourist attraction.

2.Akiri Brines – Nasarawa State

Akiri Salt is named after the Akiri village which is situated in Awe Local Government Area of NasarawaState. The Akiri salt deposit is found around a warm spring which is believed to have healing powers. The local salt miners utilize the brine to process for salt.

3. Confluence of River Niger and Benue – Kogi State

River Niger and River Benue are the two largest rivers in West Africa. The two great rivers meet at Lokoja, forming a Y-shaped structure that flows into the Atlantic Ocean. River Benue is greenish in color while River Niger is brownish. This magnificent coalition is one of the pleasurable destinations for tourist. Try viewing this greatgeologic wonder from an aircraft – sheer bliss!

4. Conical Hills of Kwi  – Plateau State                                                                                                                                                                                                

This picturesque sight is one of plateau states’s great sight with an almost flat land on top of it. It is located in RiyomLocal Government Area of Plateau state. Kwi hill is a very inviting sight to the adventurer or daredevil who would love the challenge of heights.

5. Idanre Hills – Ondo State

Idanre Hills is situated in Idanre/Ifedore local government area of Ondo State. These hills are one of the amazing geologic astonishments in Nigeria. One of the hills has 600 steps, which has to be ascended before you can get to its peak. When you get to the top of the hill, you will be surrounded by the most delightful scenery

6. Ikogosi Warm and Cold Springs – Ekiti State

These unique tourist destination where warm and cold springs merge both maintaining their thermal identity is located in Ekiti West Local Government Area of EkitiState. This geologic awe is sited in a valley where the warm spring rises from a valley while the cold spring flows down from another source side by side but separate from the warm spring. The warm spring has temperature of about 70 degrees celsius at the source and 37 degrees Celsius after joining the cold spring in a pool. This beautiful geologic edifice is believed to have healingeffect on diseases, traditionally speaking.

7. Kwa Falls – Cross River State

This spectacular waterfall located close to the Kwa river with well-arranged staircase of 234 steps made to the fallis located in Anegege village in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State. The sparkling water plunge down through a wide vertical gash on a cliff to form a pool idea for a variety of water sports. The amazing site of this geologic bewilderment has made it the most popular waterfall in Nigeria with tourists and visitors trooping there all year round.

8. Mambilla Plateau (Gashaka Gumti Park) – Taraba State

This geologic fascination is the highest plateau in Nigeria. It is located in the highland region of Taraba state. It hosts the Chappal Waddi Mountain, the highest point in Nigeria at a height of 2,419 meters. It has an undulating landscape. It has one of the best weather conditions in the country which is temperate and always accommodating to visitors all year round.

9. Ogbunike Cave – Anambra State

Ogbunike Cave is located in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State. This geologic beauty is linked together by small tunnels and passages with a stream that flows out from one of the caves tunnel into the Nkissa River. Springcool water drips from the corners and the top of the cave. One spectacular thing about the cave is the entrance and exit. One cannot leave the caves by the same entrance they came in, as it hosts many points of entry and exits.

10. Olumo Rock – Ogun State

Olumo Rock is an ancient formation of granite rocks,located in the heart of Abeokuta the capital of Ogun State. The rock is a monument of the traditional religion of the Egba people and they believe it protects them always. It has stairs carved into it for easy ascension. The peak of this geologic attraction in Nigeria is 137 meters above sea level and the rock has some natural caves, some of which are up to 20 feet long and 25 feet wide. Olumo Rock is one of the favorite and popular tourist attractions in thecountry.

11. Owu Falls – Kwara State

Owu Falls, sometimes referred to as “a wonder in the wilderness” is situated in Ifelodun Local Government area of Kwara State. It is the highest and most geologicallyspectacular waterfall in Nigeria and one of the highest and fascinating waterfall to watch in West Africa. Thewaterfall is about 120 meters above water level and flows 330 feet down to a pool of ice-cold water. The waterfall is encircled by hills, natural vegetation and a beautiful geologic ambience that makes it an amazing sightseeing destination. Imagine a place with a fall of ice-cold water, remarkable rock paths enveloped in evergreen vegetation, it’s so beautiful!

12 Sand Dunes of Yusufari  – Yobe State

This oasis of immeasurable beauty, also called “Tulo Tulooasis” is located in the Yusufari   desert in Yobe state. Known as “The desert of Hope”, the sand dunes form five hills around the oasis giving it an undulating topography. This beautiful landscape is a silent and peaceful place that will give you a breath of fresh air.

13. The Columnar Basalts of Kahweng –  Plateau State and Ngurore – Adamawa State

Basalts rocks occur in Ngurore–Numan-Kola Area of the Yola Basin in Adamawa State while the Kahwang basalt rock can be found in Bangai village of Bachi district in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. These basalt columns are beautifully shaped into a hexagonal symmetrical structure that makes them a geologist’s delight. It has attracted so many tourists from different parts of the country and outside Nigeria to come see for themselves the geologic wonders of nature.

14. Wase Rock  – Plateau State                                                                                                                                                                                                

Wase Rock, also known in Hausa language as” GwauronDutse” is a massive dome shaped rock found near Wasetown. Described by geologists as a volcanic plug, it is one of the only five available breeding grounds in Africa for rosy pelican birds due to its height of about 176 metersabove the surface of neighboring surroundings and 426 meters above sea level, this makes it a spectacular and an excellent tourist attraction in the country.

15. Yankari Warm Spring – Bauchi State

Yankari warm spring also known as ” wikki warm spring”is a geologic spring with crystal clear water located in Yankari national park Bauchi state.  This warm spring is the biggest of the four springs situated in Yankari national park. It has a constant temperature of 31 degree centigrade. It is 1.9 meters deep, 13 meters wide and 200 meters long. This geologic bewilderment is also one of the most popular eco-destinations in West Africa that provides its visitors with a serene environment for aperfect relaxation.

16. Zuma Rock – Niger State

This famous rock is composed of igneous rock with a human facial features is located along Abuja – Kaduna Expressway, Madala Niger state. Zuma rock, one of the highest and largest monoliths in the world stands at 725 meters above its surroundings. It is over four times tallerthan Aso rock and Olumo rock combined. This awe- inspiring national monument is depicted on the 100 Nairanote.

17. Agbokim Waterfall – Cross River State

Ogbokim waterfall is located in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River state. This dazzling waterfall is made up of seven streams which flows down to a beautiful pool. The waterfall is surrounded by steep hills and valleys. This seven – faced geologic wonder offers a fascinating serene environment for nature lovers.

18. Erin Ijesha Waterfalls

This geologic tourist attraction also known as Olumirin islocated at Oriade Local Government Area of Osun state. Erin can be easily translated as the elephant of Ijesha. The natives of Erin Ijesha once believed the waterfall was a sacred alter through which their soul can be purified. The fall has seven levels. Each of which has a flowing fountain with spectacular views. The seventh is the most wonderful as it is the peak of the waterfall. Erin- Ijesha is a site to behold
