The Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) will sustain its commitment to the implementation of transparency programs and policies of the Federal Government in cadastre administration in the country while also meeting the standards of the Nigeria Extractive Industry and Transparency Initiative (NEITI), the Director General of the MCO, Engr Simon Nkom has said.

“We have been working closely with NEITI, and I have the honor to inform you that in terms of openness, the Office has been commended for its transparency and detailed record-keeping practices,” he said, adding that the financial and cadastre database has been scrutinized to ensure integrity of the system.

The Director-General who made the disclosure when a delegation from the Premium Times Newspaper, led by its Publisher, Mr. Dapo Olorunyomi paid a courtesy visit to the Agency in Abuja, commended the Newspaper for having a Geologist in its team, saying that such exclusive partnership cannot be ruled out as this will help the society understand the activities in the mining sector.

While he expressed optimism that the Agency is well-positioned and prepared to address the challenges of Mineral Title administration, Nkom explained that apart from migrating to online system for easy access from any part of the world, the agency is currently migrating to online cadastre system, a development that will enable applicants submit applications from any part of the world.

He said Zonal Offices have been equipped and ready to start operational activities.

Publisher, Premium Times, Mr. Dapo Olorunyomi who sought partnership between MCO and his organization, said his organization will work to create a better understanding of the sector and activities of the agency.

Mr. Dapo said that the main objective of the visit is to ensure that journalism is professionally practiced such that it would breach the knowledge gap, so as to serve the community well.
