Chief Oyewola O. Oworu

The Rock Post Publications regrets to announce the passing of their editorial board chairman,

Chief Oyewola O. Oworu. He was an experienced Exploration/Economic Geologist with a B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Geology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and Windsor, Ontario, Canada respectively. He also obtained a certificate in the development and management of geology and mining projects from Prestea, Ghana.

He worked in both public and private organizations after retiring from the Nigerian Mining Corporation (NMC), Jos, as a Chief Geologist. With NMC, he established the commercial/economic viability of the Gold deposits at Iperindo and Itagunmodi, both within the Ilesha Schist Belt, in Osun State.  Chief Oyewola Oyeniyi Oworu served as Consultant/Resource Person with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Special Adviser to the Hon. Ministers of Mines, Power and Steel from 1992-1993, and Special Technical Adviser to the Hon. Minister, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development 2002-2003. He worked as Consultant on artisanal and Small Scale Mining Projects to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). As Special Adviser/Technical Adviser, he was the Secretary of the Presidential Committee on Solid Minerals Development that focused on ‘A Seven-Year Strategic Action Plan for Solid Minerals Development’. He also coordinated the current National Policy on Barites and Bentonite Production in Nigeria; the Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Programme; National Airborne Geophysical Survey Project amongst others.

He was Executive Director, DSV Pipetronix, a pipeline integrity survey company with Shell Petroleum Development Company; pioneer Managing Director, Gateway Fertilizer Company Limited, based in Abeokuta, and developed the utilization of Phosphate deposit in Ifo area of Ogun State for fertilizer production. With Lagos State Government, he served as Executive Director, for the establishment of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos;  Director, Paragon Petroleum Limited;  Managing Consultant, Professional Environmental and Social Consultants Limited; Chairman, Amazon Energy Limited and currently, Chairman and CEO, Walled Resources Limited, a Mining and Geosciences Projects Consultancy firm, where with his team of Geologists, has carried out various Geological Exploration projects for Gold, Cassiterite, Tantalite, Lead, Zinc, Barites, Limestone, Semi-Precious Stones, Kaolin, Dimension Stone and various other metallic and non-metallic minerals for local and international clients. He features prominently with the Rock Post Magazine besides serving as its editorial board Chairman. The Geosciences Community has indeed lost a Gem. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
